MEMBERSHIP RATES
The membership rate of the Hand knitters Guild, Victoria is just $40 and is current for 12 months from the joining date. Members receive a membership card and are emailed the next available Knitters Knews newsletter.
To join the Guild you can visit Ross House for the next Sit and Knit on a first Sunday of the month from 1pm-5pm or when the library is open on Wednesdays from February to November at 11am-2pm or either complete the Guild membership brochure and email it to the Guild or use the information in the brochure to pay your membership online. You are welcome to visit a Sit and Knit session before you join.
BENEFITS
Sit and Knit/Crochet at Ross House – We sit and knit/crochet on the first Sunday of each month between 1pm and 5pm at Ross House. The Hand Knitters Guild caters to all levels of skill – whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned knitter. Visit our events page for a list of our meetings.
Library – The Hand Knitters Guild has an extensive library of knitting related books and patterns. The collection is continually being added to with over 1400 books currently catalogued. Up to six books and magazines may be borrowed for a month at a time. We have a collection of old and vintage pattern books that are available for research. The library is open at each Sit and Knit meeting on the first Sunday of the month from 1pm-5pm and on Wednesdays between 11am and 2pm. The library is not open in December and January.
Newsletter – Members receive a monthly newsletter called Knitters Knews by email. Knitters Knews typically includes Guild news, links to websites and blogs about knitting, news from yarn suppliers and some photos of the finished knitted items that members bring to Guild meetings.
Discounts – Members of the Handknitters Guild receive discounts from selected retailers: Cleckeaton Superfine Merino, Sunspun, Morris and Sons, Moorolbark Wool & Haberdashery and Knit & Craft Supplies, Melton. Guild members get a discount for the Guild’s annual Summer School.
Sharing of skills – Tap into the collective skill, knowledge and enthusiasm of the members of the Hand Knitters Guild, who share their knitting knowledge to help you improve your knitting skills. Most Sit and Knit gatherings have a demonstration of a technique so that you can try or learn something new. You can see what is coming up by visiting our events page.
GUILD ACTIVITIES
Annual Yarn & Craft Market – The Guild organises a large and very popular Yarn and Craft Market every year in May and invites small yarn producers and indie dyers from Victoria who mostly do not have shops to present stalls of their yarn. The market is very popular and is a unique opportunity to meet yarn makers and indie dyers and purchase their products.
Summer School – The Guild hosts a Summer School at Ross House in January and offers a range of classes for intermediate knitters. Classes are generally taken by members of the Guild that have many years of knitting experience.
Expos, Fairs and Community Events – The Hand Knitters Guild participates in a variety of expos, fairs and community events throughout the year. Members are encouraged to participate and support these events. The Guild participates in World-Wide Knit in Public Day annually. Visit our events page for a list of all of our dates.
Charity Knitting – Members of the Hand Knitters Guild knit for assorted charities and support community projects where knitting is involved.
The Guild Blog – This blog promotes and encourages participation in the craft of knitting to the wider community.
