The Royal Melbourne Show is coming to town again bringing with it an opportunity to enter your knitting in the Craft category.

Entries are now open for the Royal Melbourne Show Art, Craft & Cookery Competition. Entries can be completed online where you will find the 2014 schedule and all information regarding entries. This year there are prizes, new classes and more opportunities than before.

The 2014 Royal Melbourne Show will be held from Saturday 20 September – Wednesday 1 October.

Beanie Affair

A three day event called the Beanie Affair is underway in the Market Building in Castlemaine and continues until 4pm this Sunday. The affair has been going for three years and will raise funds for the Castlemaine CWA. In addition to the beanies that will be for sale there are CWA handcrafts and merchandise, a knitting lounge, demonstrations of a range of textile crafts and one-on-one instruction sessions. The ‘Grand’ opening is on tomorrow, Saturday 24 May at 10am outside the Market Hall in Mostyn Street. Castlemaine is an easy 90 minute train ride from Melbourne with trains departing every hour from Southern Cross station between 6am and 10.30pm on the Bendigo line.

Beanie Affair is open 9am to 5pm Friday and Saturday, 9am to 4pm Sunday. Beanie Central is walking distance from the train station, making this a great day trip for knitters.

The annual Guild Yarn and Craft Market is two sleeps away and we can’t wait to get our hands on the lovely yarns from our stall holders THIS Saturday 17 May at the Coburg Town Hall. There will be stalls from boutique Victorian yarn producers and sellers all under one roof from 10am-3pm, that’s FIVE hours of yarn loving!

Stall holders include:

VENUE: Coburg Town Hall at 90 Bell Street, Coburg
To get to the Coburg Town Hall by: Tram take the number 19 and it’s a five minute walk from Sydney Road. You can catch Bus Route 513 and others that stop on Bell Street (200m) or get a Train to Coburg Station on the Upfield line and enjoy a ten minute walk to the Hall. If you are driving there is a free public car park in Urquhart Street, behind Coburg Town Hall.

Entries have opened for the 2014 Scarf Festival exhibition which will be held at the National Wool Museum from 6 June to 7 September 2014. It’s not too late to get an entry in but you will have to be quick! Entries close on Friday 16 May. There are entry fees so check the website for details and forms.

All entrants will be in the running for the Scarf of the Year award as well as other category awards including Use of Colour, 100% Wool, Thematic and more. There is no limit to the number of scarves that can be entered and all entrants receive one free entry to the National Wool Museum. Entrants have the option of offering their scarves for sale. The theme for this year’s Scarf Festival is ‘divinely wicked or devilishly good?’

The Scarf Festival will be on from Friday 6 June to Sunday 7 September. The Guild will be participating again this year, so check in again for an update.
